Arthur O’Dell Benton, Jr. rocked God’s world with his entrance to heaven on July 7, 2010. Dell, as his friends and family called him, passed away at home in Victorville, CA. surrounded by his loved ones. Dell was born in Cincinnati, Ohio on November 29, 1943, to Arthur O’Dell Benton, Sr. and Ann Marie Benton. He had been a California resident for almost 30 years. Dell is survived by his devoted wife of 45 years, Kathy; their five children: Janette Hartson, Michelle Pirello, Renee Cullin, Dellena Jeffrey, and Rick Nenigar; their nine grandchildren: Guy Hartson, Brian Hartson, Anthony Pirello, Eden Pirello, Aubree Pirello, Heather Tackett, Adam Sergeant, Chase Jeffrey, and Alexis Jeffrey. Dell is survived by his brother, Michael Benton of Hamilton, Ohio. Dell is also survived by his great-grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Dell is preceded in death by his father, Arthur O’Dell Benton, Sr.

Dell served in the Marine Corps and served his community altruistically. He was a life member of the AMVETS, DAV, VFW, Brothers of Vietnam, and member of the American Legion. Dell spent most of his life serving others. He worked tirelessly helping military veterans and their families. He also helped local families and schools with turkey and can-food donations during holidays. He made friends everywhere he went. If you were lucky enough to make his acquaintance, you made a friend for life; consider yourself touched by an angel.

A viewing honoring Dell’s life will be held at Hesperia United Methodist Church, 18623 Main Street in Hesperia, CA from 4:00 – 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, July 13, 2010. Please attend and share your stories of Dell’s adventurous life with his family and friends. Dell will be laid to rest at Riverside National Cemetery, Staging Area 2, 22495 Van Buren Blvd., Riverside, CA, on Wednesday, July 14 at 1:15 p.m. Immediately following the interment, family and friends are invited to a luncheon at Victor Villa in The Club House at 13393 Mariposa Road, Victorville, CA. Services are being handled by Kern Mortuary, 16120 Main St., Hesperia, CA 92345, (760) 244-9313.
